The way people work is evolving as technology makes it increasingly easy to work remotely. As a result, more and more people are taking advantage of work-from-home job opportunities.

According to a recent Statista survey, over 5 million Canadians currently work from home – and 75% of those people report being extremely satisfied with their work-life balance.

Certain industries lend themselves to remote working better than others, such as digital marketing, finance, and IT. For this reason, many companies in these areas offer teleworking opportunities to their employees. We have compiled a list of various positions you can hold within these three industries if you dream of ditching that daily commute and earning a living from the comfort of home.

Remember, although the positions mentioned below can be conducted remotely, it does not mean every employer will provide that option. If you are planning on working from home, ensure you only apply to the positions listed as such.

Digital Marketing

Digital marketing refers to all marketing efforts that occur on the internet. In 2022, this profession is needed across all industries because every business requires digital marketing efforts in order to build brand awareness. It also lends itself perfectly to remote work, due to the digital nature of the industry.

Earning your Digital Marketing & Social Media Management Diploma opens the door to many popular work-from-home positions, some of which are outlined below.

  • Proofreader

Proofreaders are responsible for conducting the final checks on written work before it goes to print or becomes live on a website. Proofreaders work for newspapers, magazines, publishing houses, and websites.

  • Content Writer

Content Writers create written content for publications. Many Content Writers work as freelancers so that they can maintain contracts for a variety of companies, and others work full-time for a single organization. Regardless of the situation, Content Writers often work from home because of the solitary nature of the position.

  • Social Media Manager

Social Media Managers are responsible for engaging with a business’s customers through social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Using a variety of marketing campaigns, Social Media Managers work to build a bigger brand following so that a business can grow. Although Social Media Managers typically work in tandem with the rest of the marketing team, it is still a job that can be done from home using online meeting software.

  • SEO Specialist

An SEO (or search engine optimization) Specialist analyzes, reviews, and implements changes to websites to maximize the number of people visiting the website and improve the site’s rank on search engines such as Google. As long as you have access to the various SEO tools, you can work as an SEO Specialist anywhere you wish, employer permitting, of course!

Accounting, Tax & Payroll

If you are more interested in the world of finance, earning your Accounting, Tax & Payroll Diploma is another great way to enter an industry with a variety of work-from-home jobs.

Below are some career options to consider if you have entered this field6 and hope to work remotely.

  • Bookkeeper

Bookkeepers keep track of business income, expenses, and various financial activities so that at the end of each year businesses have accurate and detailed financial records. A Bookkeeper may work full-time for a single organization, or for multiple small businesses at the same time. The internet makes it possible for Bookkeepers to work from home, serving clients with various online tools.

  • Income Tax Preparer

Income Tax Preparers prepare, calculate, and file income tax returns on behalf of an individual or business. They ensure that the client has the correct information filled out on their tax forms and that they receive the maximum amount of money back from the government. An Income Tax Preparer may work for an accounting firm, franchise tax business, or possibly a law firm. In a world where taxes are guaranteed, becoming an Income Tax Preparer is a promising career path and one that can be done remotely.

Network Systems Administration

Computer networking is essential to every business and home, and Network Systems Administrators play a vital role in keeping the technology we rely on running smoothly.

Earning your Network Systems Administrator Diploma provides a host of potential work-from-home positions if you are tech-savvy and would like to work remotely.

  • Network Administrator

A Network Administrator installs, monitors, and maintains a computer network on behalf of a client or employer. A work-from-home Network Administrator would install the necessary software remotely and either travel to the site to install hardware or have an onsite IT professional install it on their behalf.

  • Help Desk Analyst

Help Desk Analysts are on the front line of customer support in the IT world. IT companies hire Help Desk Analysts to provide technical support to their customers via phone, email, or live chat. Due to the remote nature of this position, it is possible that you would find yourself working from home as a Help Desk Analyst.
