This course provides students with comprehensive coverage of chemical and behavioural addictions. Specific substances studied will include: stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, opioids, cannabis, gambling, food, internet, shopping and sex. You will learn prevention techniques, harm reduction strategies, and treatment procedures, equipping you with the knowledge to effectively help those struggling with addiction in your future career
Addictions Awareness Today
You will analyze the current state of addictions in Canada, covering such topics as behavioural addictions, homelessness, family support resources, and harm reduction.
Gain a thorough understanding of contemporary addiction issues to effectively address and support the needs of those affected in your future career.
High-Risk Populations
Students will develop the skills needed to support the most common high-risk populations dealing with mental health and addictions in Canada. This course covers how to facilitate cross-cultural counseling, support clients showing signs of substance misuse, and show respect when engaging them in different types of addiction treatments.

Is student aid funding available for post-secondary microdiploma programs?
No, student aid funding does not cover microdiploma in Canada. All Continuing education programs are funded independently by the student. Although government financial aid isn’t an option, microdiplomas offer a practical way to boost your qualifications and open new career opportunities. Some employers or alternative funding sources may offer assistance.
What will I receive once I successfully complete a microdiploma?
Upon successful completion of each microdiploma, you will receive a microdiploma and a Certificate of Achievement for each course within the microdiploma.
What happens if I don’t complete all the required courses for a microdiploma?
You will receive Certificates of Achievement for each course you successfully complete, but you will not earn the microdiploma unless you complete all required courses.
What are the differences between microdiplomas and courses?
Microdiplomas are intended for students who want to upgrade their skills or get a comprehensive education in a new subject. They are comprised of 2-4 courses.
